Hello. I’m Ben Klaus, a creative and curious technologist with a strong love for design.

Very comfortable in the space between the left and right sides of my brain. Equal parts introvert and extrovert. After working in the coding and operational side of the software industry, my aptitude for identifying and creatively solving user experience problems led me to the design side of tech.

For the last couple years, I've been designing complex financial websites for some of the largest financial and media organizations in the world. Much of that work cannot be shared here but I'm happy to discuss my experience. Currently looking for a position in which to explore interesting new industries and experience the latest approaches to design.

I regularly feed my curiosity for developing trends in design and tech with my actively managed twitter feed and podcasts. I also have an inherent visual sense which I've cultivated through my photography.

CNBC

Collaborated with the CNBC design team to create their new Android app. Following Material Design standards, we came up with exciting new ways to represent financial information that is both robust and easy to ingest while on the go.

Through weekly design sessions we iterated on solutions for each page. As different approaches were mocked up, they were presented to users in A/B testing scenarios. We designed in sprints a couple sprints ahead of the dev team.

Once designs were finalized, we worked closely with the development team as they developed the app.

Boulder Hiking Guide

“Can you recommend a good hike in Boulder?”

Since I was regularly answering this question, and had drives full of relevant photographs, I decided to create a website to help people find good hikes in Boulder, Colorado. The site allows users to filter based on a variety of criteria for their hike, including dog access, seasonal preference, and difficulty. It averages 40k pageviews/month during Spring, Summer and Fall.

Cortado

Cortado is a working idea I have for an app aimed at discriminating coffee lovers, allowing them to read and share reviews of independent craft coffee shops. Whether traveling or looking for new shops in their city, Cortado will help them find the very best coffee.
